The starting point of making permanent and lasting changes in our lives begins with a paradigm shift that will differentiate in your mind , the difference between positive thinking and what we are going to refer to as success thinking..

Let me illustrate this principle by sharing with you an example that, literally started me on the road to earning a million dollars. Several years ago I became very interested in learning to play the game of golf It was not long after this great decision that I made a startling discover. Learning to play the game was only a fraction of my original goal. In fact, it turns out the decision was only a small percentage of this worthy goal. My first discovery was very startling. And enlightening. Image, my surprise when I discovered that I had the ability to play the game but, but I did not understand the game. The game looked like fun but I soon learned there were principles and rules that were the foundation for me to play the game of golf with excellence. I also learned that to pursue this worthy goal was not going to be an overnight project..

Now, what does that little walk down memory lane have to do with the game of life?

Each one of us has the ability to play the game of life with balance, harmony and joy, the trick is to take the time to learn the rules and principles by which the game is played.

You see, as you read further in this book you will soon learn that Life works according to principles and physical law. If it didn't, you couldn't fly an airplane, because there would be no gravity, there would be no such thing as electricity, and one-plus-one would not equal two.

The laws of this world we live in are totally dependable. In fact this law is not only dependable, but also unchangeable.

You can depend on it, and it will work every time. In essence it will never let you down. You will soon find out that this law doesn't care how old you are, how young you are, how short, how fat, how skinny, your religion, your nationality or whether you are a male or a female. The Power, the Force, or the Energy is neutral, and we direct it through our own ideas and belief system.

Your Word is Law

Let me give you a key that can change your life forever. Your word is law. That is not just a good sounding statement. To the contrary it is a statement of fact.

However, just knowing about the law other similar laws is not what will give you your results In fact having full knowledge without putting it into practice is simply creating a recipe for disappointment and failure. In fact, without and understanding of these laws it is very difficult to experience what most people would call good luck. The truth is you make your own luck..

The law of all laws

The fundamental law to which all other laws conform is the Law of Cause and Effect. The Law of Cause and Effect says that the effect or the result of any situation must be equal to the cause. The cause is Always an idea or belief. Another way of describing the Law of Cause

and Effect is the example of sowing and reaping, or action and reaction. Or, put in a modern-day context – My ideas create my results.

The Law of Cause and Effect is impersonal, just like sunshine. If you are standing in the sun, you receive the warmth and healing benefits of the sun's rays. If you are standing in the shade, it seems like the sun isn't shining on you. But that brings us a a good question! who moved you into the shade? Who moved us into the darkness? The truth is we are in darkness because of our ignorance.

What keeps us from getting better?

I repeat, the Law of Cause and Effect is impersonal. I have coached over 5000 persons in personal development. Most of these came to me, as a coach, because they wanted to get better. The amazing thing that I learned was that most people who go through life with and never reach their potential all have the same challenge. Could it be, they were bad people?

Was it because they were greedy? No, after coaching thousands I came to this conclusion. Somewhere in their lives, either though ignorance or misunderstanding, they never learned to apply the Law of Cause and effect. In fact many of my clients have not only heard of the law but have even tried to practice it.

Many good people go through life facing one problem after another. One disaster after another. These people are not bad people but somewhere in their life ,either through ignorance or misunderstanding or both they violated the law is no respecter of persons. It plays no favorites and gives no special deals. That does not mean he or she isn’t a loving person or even a good person. It simply means they misused the law.

Old Man River

The world in which we live is like a river. The river keeps on flowing. It doesn’t care whether you are happy or sad, good or bad; it just keeps flowing .Some people go down to the river and they cry and beg. Some people go down to the river and they are happy, Regardless how you go down to the River, the river does not care. Regardless what you do or say that ole river just keeps flowing an doing its thing’s can use it and enjoy it, or we can jump in and drown. The river just keeps flowing because it is impersonal. And so it is with our world .The old world that we live is incapable of destroying us. To the contrary, it is our interpretation and use of the laws that govern this old world, that determine our results.

We can only receive what our minds are capable of accepting. We can go to the river of life with a teaspoon, and someone else may go with a cup. Someone else may go with a bucket, and yet another person may go with a barrel. But the abundance of old man river is always there and waiting. Our consciousness, our ideas, our frame of reference and our belief system determines whether we go to the river of life with a Teaspoon, a cup, a bucket or a barrel. If we are timid in our thinking and have gone to the river of life with only a teaspoon, we may not be satisfied and even become bitter at the little we have in our teaspoon. We may resent or even curse others who have more than we do. But remember, – whatever we curse will curse us. The river is there, and it's overflowing with abundance. We can come to the river of life with a

teaspoon, a bucket or a barrel anytime we want to. What we take from the river of life is up to us. The only limitation is in our mind. The truth is we can have anything we want if we'll give up the belief that we can’t have it. It's as simple as that. Remember life is a game and the sooner you learn the rules the faster you become a winner.

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light Then he sighed and he said, "It’s really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night. "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my father’s before me. My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December," Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers." My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ', And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.” Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red, white, and blue… an American flag. “I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life with my sister and brother. Who stand at the front against any and all, To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, "Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone, To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled. Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

LCDR Jeff Giles, SC, USN 30th Naval Construction Regiment OIC, Logistics Cell One Al Taqqadum, Iraq

P.S. When I first received this it was from a very dear friend whose son is serving in Iraq. So I didn't jump onto to my trusty site www.snopes.com to check it out. So albeit this may not be the originating author, or even a real person it nonetheless does not diminish the appreciation and gratitude we have for our service men and women.
